6. ¿Cómo puedo reconocer el software pirata?
El software original, usualmente, viene en cajas en alta calidad con vistoso packing. Estas cajas contienen, entre otras cosas, los manuales de los productos, que en muchas oportunidades consisten en voluminosos tomos. Las cajas también contienen un juego de disquetes, debidamente identificados con etiquetas re-impresas que indican el nombre del productor de software, su versión, y su lenguaje. En la actualidad muchos paquetes de software también se comercializan en CD ROM. Estos vienen impresos en muy alta calidad en uno de sus lados con la correspondiente gráfica y datos del producto. Finalmente, y de gran importancia, las cajas del software original contienen la licencia de uso del mismo, que es el contrato entre el productor y el usuario comprador del paquete en el cual se especifican los derechos y obligaciones del usuario y del productor del software. Este es el único elemento legal que autoriza a utilizar un paquete de software.
Por el contrario, el software pirata carece de la gran mayoría de todas estas características: No viene contenido en ninguna caja, generalmente carece de manuales, o estos son fotocopiados e incompletos, generalmente son grabados en disquetes de marcas comerciales (que continúan visibles) y son etiquetados a mano o con burdas impresiones. Asimismo, carecen de la licencia de uso del software. Recordamos que la Ley de Derechos de Autor expresa claramente que el uso no autorizado del software (sin la licencia de uso correspondiente) constituye un delito a la misma.
